Thank you for this honest share! I'm so happy you're able to order your favorite coffee drink in the I'm Published Cafe. Hope to join you there some day. I definitely need to be more vigilant around my sadness when it comes to my writing practice/career. It can sometimes get the better of me!

Thank you, Laura, for your thoughtful comments. So happy for you that you are now in The Published Cafe. (And I pre-ordered. Can't wait!) As for me, I'm familiar with The Sad Writers Club though my creative being has changed with age. I love my writing. I love writing. And for me, right now, that's enough.

Yes! Yes! Yes! "the Published Cafe!" Thank you for another beautiful and inspiring newsletter, Laura. And I love those shadow boxes. Just a couple of days ago I put about six different sized shoe boxes in recycling. And then you inspire me with what you created. Have fun with your writer-in-residence gig at your daughter's school. I'm going to ask my local indie, The Book Catapult, to pre-order your book for me.

I love reading and learning from you, Laura. Such wise insights into the publishing world! And I just pre-ordered Singing Lessons for the Stylish Canary from Broadway Books. Can't wait to read it!

Once again Laura...you nailed it. Perspective, perspective, perspective. It is crazy how easily I can fall into that Sad Authors Club, even with four books out, and a (soon to be announced) fifth on the way. Damn! You'd think I'd have learned already...anyhow, this was just what I needed to read today. And now, I will go drink endless virtual cappuccinos at the I'm Published Cafe. So delicious!

Oh Laura, this missive is so full of humanity! The ups and downs. The full complement of a writer’s (and publishers) life. Huzzah to your success as a debut author, and thank you for all that you do as a book wizard. 💕

Oh Laura, I get it, with far fewer years experience in this up and down world of publishing. I recommend you listen to Atlantic’s podcast “A Guide to a happy life - episode 8: How to identify what you enjoy.” You’ve heard it before but I found, in the context of writing/publishing at this moment of time, to be soothing and invigorating. Loved seeing your book in that book store stack. My win? Having that store and two others nearby order copies of mine without me having to offer to consign:) And yes, in the context of COVID and everything else, find those priceless moments of joy. Can’t wait to read your book.
